The Agenda with Steve Paikin
The Agenda with Steve Paikin on TVO hosts a panel discussion on Canada's data deficit and what it means for policymakers.
Canada has a data problem. Policymakers and businesses are unable to make informed decisions because Canada doesn't produce the statistics to answer the questions they are asking. Jan Kestle, President and CEO of Environics Analytics joins a panel discussion on The Agenda with Steve Paikin to discuss Canada's data deficit.
While Kestle agrees that there are areas where we can use more data, she argues that Canada needs to explore using different data collection methods and make better use of the data that is already available. "There are a lot of administrative data sources that can be turned into official statistics that can inform policy and help make communities run better and work better," she says. "Canadians have to understand that data make a difference to the quality of their lives."
