FoodSpend
FoodSpend provides current estimates of annual expenditures across 304 food-related variables for Canadian households. The data combine household income inputs from DemoStats with Statistics Canada’s Food Expenditure Survey.
They help you understand what Canadian households spend on for food and restaurants, from specific items such as vegetables, meat and fish to meal occasions such as lunch and dinner.
You can analyze expenditures by average dollars per household and total dollars spent at any geographic level, from national views to custom trade areas, regardless of where purchases are made.
How it’s used
- Grocery retailers can append FoodSpend data to customer files to identify popular food items and improve product mix and inventory planning.
- Consumer packaged goods companies can link FoodSpend data with PRIZM® to build target groups, strengthen campaign performance and attract customers to new product lines.
- Restaurants can analyze trade areas to distinguish lunch-driven locations from dinner-driven ones, enabling smarter decisions on hours, staffing and daypart-specific promotions.
Sample questions it can answer
- How much do my customers spend on beef, pork and chicken?
- Where can I find neighbourhoods with high annual spending on restaurant lunches?
- Which neighbourhoods have the highest potential for a restaurant expansion based on high annual spending on dinner meals?
- Which PRIZM® segments over-index on in-store prepared meals versus specific grocery spend?
- Which food categories matter most to target segments?
